CalABLE Program updates are complete

We are excited to let you know that CalABLE has transitioned to our new plan manager, offering a host of benefits, including new investment options, a new prepaid card, and a new website!

Account owners can now access their account online and explore the new features and options available.

How this will affect you

  1. The CalABLE.ca.gov URL will remain the same but you will manage your account through a new portal

  2. You will need to retrieve your account, verify your information, and set up a new password

  3. Your account number will now begin with “99”, followed by your previous account number for a total of 12 digits

  4. Transfers to or from your bank account will appear as Vestwell on your bank statement going forward

  5. The new mailing address will be:

How you will access your new account

We will contact you when the transition is complete and you can access your updated account.

You will need to:

  1. Retrieve your account at CalABLE.ca.gov/retrieve

  2. Verify your information

  3. Set up a new password with your email as your username

To retrieve your account, you will need two of the following pieces of information:

  • Your new CalABLE account number (“99” followed by your previous account number)

  • Social security number or Tax Identification Number

  • Date of birth

Please note: If you are an Authorized Legal Representative managing the account for someone else, you will use your SSN/TIN and DOB.

Conversion FAQs

How can we access customer service after the switch?

Starting on August 21, customer service will be available at the same number — 1-833-Cal-ABLE (1-833-225-2253) — Monday through Friday from 6am to 5pm PT. Additionally, customer service may be reached by visiting calable.ca.gov/contact-us.

Will I need to set up new eGift events?

Yes. After the conversion, you will need to set up a new gifting page through the portal. Once that is set up, you will receive a unique URL that you can share with friends and family to send gift contributions.

Will I be able to get a prepaid card after conversion?

Yes. You will be able to sign up for a prepaid card from your Account Overview page after you retrieve your account. The prepaid card vendor is True Link. There will be no monthly fee for the card as the CalABLE Board will be waiving it.

FDIC exchange

Please note: After the conversion, the money you have invested in the FDIC-Insured Portfolio will be exchanged into a new FDIC-Insured Portfolio that is invested in an interest-bearing custodial account at Bank of New York Mellon. We’re making this change to give you better insight into how the fund is performing.

The exchange will be processed in your account on August 21, 2023. On August 22, you will see account activity that shows the exchange from the prior FDIC-Insured Portfolio (“CALXX”) to the new FDIC-Insured Portfolio (“CAAXX”). Starting at the end of August, you will see an entry on the last business day of each month for the interest earned that month, similar to a typical savings bank account.
